When we think of fall makeup, the first thing that comes to mind is a bold look with a vampy lip at the center of it. We love this look at The Salon Professional Academy (TSPA), Collegeville because it’s a show-stopping look that anyone can pull off. Here are our tips on how to rock the vampy fall makeup trend!
Find the Perfect Vampy Lip Color for Your Skin Tone
At the heart of any autumnal makeup look is a deep, dark, beautiful lip color. These shades can seem intense, but there’s no reason to be afraid of the vampy lip! The key is to find the perfect shade for your skin tone.
For those with fair skin, choose a rich berry tone. Make sure you think about your undertones as well. If you’re fair and cool-toned, choose something with a blue undertone. Those who are fair and warm-toned should choose a lip color with yellow undertone.
Choose reddish brown and plums if this is your skin tone. People with the light to medium-tan skin tones usually have a neutral/warm undertone. That means you can choose from a broad range of shades, whether you want a super bold violet or a more muted deep red color.
Olive and tan complexions look beautiful with deep maroons and brown-based lipsticks. While maroon will look the best with your undertone, you can also easily pull off mulberry and dark plum colors.
Those with deep skin should choose dark purples and blue-based reds. Darker skin tones can also pull off purple and dark chocolate brown colors. Warm undertones look great with brown-hued shades, while cooler undertones are better off with a blue-based purple or red.
Prep Those Lips
When wearing an intense lip color, lip balm and lip liner will be your best friends. Moisturizing your lips will give the color a smooth base to work with. If your lips are dry and flaky, make sure you exfoliate with a lip scrub before applying any color. Lip liner isn’t vital for every lip color, but when dark colors bleed outside the natural lip line it will be noticeable. You can use a nude, nearly invisible liner, or find one that matches your lipstick. Using this to trace the border of your lips will keep everything looking neat and in place.
Keep Your Eyes Minimal
Keep in mind that this is just a suggestion, not a rule. When you wear a bold lip it’s going to make a statement. To keep things balanced, try keeping your eye makeup more minimal. This could mean just applying liquid liner and mascara, or even doing an eyeshadow look with neutral colors. However, if you’re feeling like going all out with a statement look, go for it! Pair that vampy lip with a smokey eye and fake eyelashes. It’s all about what makes you feel confident and happy!
Pay Attention to Your Cheeks
A dark lipstick, especially for the fair-skinned out there, has the power to wash out your face. Keep things healthy looking with blush and bronzer. The bronzer will add warmth and definition back to your face, while the blush adds a beautiful flush of color. You can stick to neutral tones or go for a berry blush shade to match your lips!
Don’t Forget the Brows!
To finish balancing out your face, make sure to fill in your brows. The dark lipstick will draw attention to the lower half of your face. If your eyebrows are too light or not filled in, the focus will be unbalanced. For a polished, cohesive vampy look, whip out those brow products and get those babies filled in!
